Case 1: Life-Saving Surgery for a Loved Companion
A retired couple's eight-year-old dog, Bella, is diagnosed with a removable but fast-growing
tumor.
The surgery and follow-up care are estimated at $4,000, which is far beyond the couple's fixed
income budget.
The couple contacts OurPawmise after discussing options with their veterinarian. Bella's case
meets
our criteria: a critical yet non-emergency procedure with an excellent prognosis if treated
promptly.
The couple demonstrates financial need and can contribute $1,000 from savings.
After a short waiting period of a few weeks, OurPawmise approves a grant (collected through
donors)
covering the remaining $3,000. Payment is sent directly to the veterinary surgical center. Bella
receives her operation, makes a full recovery, and remains a cherished companion for years to
come.
Economic euthanasia is prevented.
Case 2: Emergency Referral and Recovery Support
A pet owner's young dog, Max, is hit by a car, requiring emergency surgery. The owner contacts
OurPawmise in a panic, facing an upfront estimate of $5,000 at the emergency vet.
Because Max's situation is truly urgent, requiring immediate surgery to save his life,
OurPawmise's direct grant process cannot meet the timeframe. Instead, our team quickly refers
the owner to organizations specializing in emergency veterinary aid and assists in contacting
one
to arrange immediate help. We also advise the owner on setting up a crowdfunding campaign.
One month later, after Max's successful surgery (funded through an emergency-specific charity
and
other means), OurPawmise steps in to help with rehabilitative care costs for Max's physical
therapy,
non-urgent but important for his full recovery. This case shows that even when our main program
cannot directly fund immediate care, we remain a compassionate partner throughout the entire
journey.
